Graduation Requirements
To create and manage graduation requirements in Aspire. You will want to first make sure all your course subject codes are set up. See documentation Course Subject Codes.
Define Graduation Requirements
- Go to the School Lens.
- Go to the Setup Tab and select graduation requirements.

- Click on New to create a new graduation year.
- Please begin by entering the school year and the total number of credits (26.000) needed to graduate with your LEA. Grades 9-12 are already filled in.
- After assigning subject codes to all courses, select each course to add a subject code. Highlight the subject code LE - Lang. Arts-English to choose it. To add multiple subject codes, hold down the 'Ctrl' key and highlight them. Save upon completion.

- Please refrain from creating an Electives Requirement Course.
- The system will automatically generate this. Any course not included in the assigned subject codes will be categorized as an elective.
- Please refer to the image below to view the addition of an elective course in your Graduation Requirements, resulting in two elective fields.
- This results in calculation errors, which will also be reflected in College and Career.

- Four Years of graduation requirements need to be created for the credits to calculate correctly. So, you will create at least four years for a school.

- After you have created all courses and feel confident – you can copy more years over to make sure all 4 years are covered.
- To copy the graduation requirements created, open the last year created and select Copy Requirements then save.
- It will add the following year, select copy.

- Save and Continue this process until all required years have been created.
Notes:
Caution: If a course is set up in Courses without assigning a subject code, it will default to the Elective field. This is suitable if intended, but otherwise it will be assigned to the subject code requirements in the required core fields.
If the required course subject codes are filled and a student has excess credits – those will also default to the elective requirements. You add each required core in the course requirements. See Example below.
Notice that the total number of credits required to graduate over a 9-12 grade span is 26.0000. (It is up to the LEA how many credits are required to graduate). But the number of Core Requirements does not add up to 26.00. This is how it should be.
The Credit Required field should not exceed the total graduation requirements, allowing for elective credits to be included. The number of Core Requirements is 26.0000. Adding up the required core in each subject area totals 21.5 Credits leaving 4.5 for any elective students choose to take.
Please refrain from creating an Electives Requirement Course as the system will automatically generate this. Any course not included in the assigned subject codes will default to the Electives field, resulting in errors in calculation when elective courses are added to Graduation Requirements.

By following these steps, you can effectively create and manage graduation requirements in Aspire, ensuring that students are on track to meet their educational goals. If you encounter any issues, contact USBE https://apphelpdesk.schools.utah.gov.
